Search Telegram Across Languages with AI: Preserve the Original Wording

To search Telegram across languages with AI, ask the client to propose a small set of likely search terms in the conversation's languages, run those text queries within an agreed account and chat scope, and preserve the original wording beside any translation. An AI-generated query is a search hypothesis; an AI translation is an interpretation of a retrieved message. Neither is evidence that the entire account was searched.

Chiho supplies authorized existing Telegram account conversations to AI clients such as Codex, Claude, and ChatGPT. A bot or channel that carries instructions to a running agent serves a different purpose; that connection alone does not establish access to a personal conversation archive. Account identity, Business permissions where applicable, documented tools, and actual history coverage determine access. The Telegram MCP architecture guide explains the distinction.

Start with meaning, names, and a bounded query plan

Suppose you remember an English phrase, “pilot approval,” but the conversation may be in Russian or Chinese. Ask the client to suggest a few variants, such as those below, while retaining the project name or reference code unchanged. Review the variants before retrieving messages. Translating the whole question into one long sentence may miss the wording people actually used.

Candidate queries, not executed:
pilot
пилот
试点
PILOT-7
Language note: согласование can describe a process, not completed approval.

Separate literal identifiers from suggested language variants. A company name, username, or code such as PILOT-7 may be more useful than a generic translation. Do not merge similar names or transliterations into one person without checking identity. The Russian term in the language note can refer to a coordination or approval process rather than completed approval.

Agree on the account, resolved chats, intended period and timezone, maximum variants, and result limit. For a first attempt, three queries with a limit of 20 each is a suggested stopping boundary, not a Telegram quota or a completeness guarantee. Use the general message search guide for the basic retrieval workflow; this guide adds multilingual query and translation checks.

Run text searches without promising semantic matching

Install the connection through Chiho MCP setup, complete browser authorization, then use auth_status and account_whoami to verify the intended connection and account scope. Resolve the chat before using its name as a search target.

The current hosted search_messages accepts query, limit, chat, and accountId. It delegates the query text to Telegram search. The contract does not promise automatic cross-language semantic retrieval, translation, or an exact-match mode. Telegram documents chat search and global search; the parameters of those APIs are not all exposed by Chiho's tool.

Run each chosen text variant separately and sequentially for the same account. Team-scoped search requires chat; it must not widen to an account-wide search. Hosted search does not support local, tag, or company filters. It also exposes no date-range argument or search continuation cursor in this contract: the intended time window is not a server-enforced date filter. Inspect returned dates and use bounded chat_read calls for context. Do not invent extra arguments or present the result limit as an archive total.

If a call returns rate_limited, wait its retryAfterSeconds before retrying. Telegram's runtime waits take precedence over a planned pace. Record failed or stopped variants separately from successful empty results.

Keep a query log and original/translation pairs

For each attempt, record the actual query, why it was chosen, verified account and chat scope, result limit, returned count, returned date span, retrieval time, and unresolved coverage. Mark proposed but unexecuted queries explicitly. Deduplicate overlapping hits by account, chat, and message ID; the same numeric ID in another chat is a different source.

For each relevant message, retain:

  • Source: account context, chat, message ID, timestamp, and a working link only if available.
  • Original excerpt: the retrieved wording, with its language stated; identify excerpts rather than presenting them as full messages.
  • Translation: label it “AI translation,” retaining conditions, negatives, dates, and uncertainty.
  • Interpretation and next check: distinguish what the message says from what you infer; read surrounding and later messages within scope.

Do not invent Telegram links or send unnecessary personal details to a wider audience. A text search result or a media placeholder is not evidence of an attachment's contents. For a final synthesis, use the source-backed summary workflow after checking retrieval coverage.

Evaluate the method with a fictional multilingual packet

These are synthetic source cards, not outputs from live Telegram search. All dates below use Asia/Singapore, in one fictional authorized project chat.

Synthetic source cards — not live search results
Account: fictional authorized project account; Chat: project; Timezone: Asia/Singapore
S1 | message 1001 | 2026-10-12 09:00 | Russian original
Пилот согласуем после проверки безопасности.
S2 | message 1002 | 2026-10-12 10:00 | Chinese original
试点还没批准,先等安全检查。
S3 | message 1003 | 2026-10-13 14:00 | English original
PILOT-7: Friday is a proposal, not a confirmed start.
  • S1 — AI translation: “We will agree on the pilot after the security review.” This preserves the future condition; it does not say approval is complete.
  • S2 — AI translation: “The pilot has not been approved yet; wait for the security check first.” The negative and prerequisite must survive translation.
  • S3 — interpretation of the English original: Keep the project reference and proposed status; Friday is not confirmed.

Ask the client to propose variants before showing it the source cards, then assess its interpretation of the cards. A useful answer records the listed terms as candidate queries, without pretending they were executed. It preserves S1's condition, S2's negative, and S3's unconfirmed date. It cannot turn these messages into “the pilot is approved for Friday.”

Remove S2 and ask again. Its absence no longer supports a claim about that Chinese message; it does not turn S1 into completed approval. Add an unread document mentioned in a card and mark its contents unknown. This exercise checks reasoning and translation labels; it does not measure Telegram matching, retrieval recall, or translation accuracy on real accounts.

Report no-result coverage and choose the next check

“No matches returned for these three queries in this chat” is defensible. “Nobody discussed approval” is not established by those results. Missing terminology, an unsearched language, a different chat, a limit reached, or inaccessible history may explain the gap. Choose one justified next check, such as a verified project code or a bounded history read, instead of silently expanding to the whole account.

Use this prompt with resolved scope:

Search [authorized account and chats] for [question]. Propose at most three query variants in the likely conversation languages and preserve names/reference codes. Run approved variants sequentially with a limit of 20 each. State that search has no exposed date filter; inspect dates for [period and timezone], and read bounded surrounding context when needed. Log executed, empty, failed, and unexecuted queries separately. Pair every relevant original excerpt with a labeled AI translation and its source. Preserve negatives, conditions, proposed dates, and uncertainty. Report actual coverage and one next check. Return the result here; do not refresh stored summaries, change CRM records, create tasks, schedule, or send messages.

These write exclusions are the boundary of this request. Chiho enforces permissions and action safeguards, but some permitted writes execute directly after client controls; not every write has a second approval screen. Begin with installation and browser authorization, verify identity, and complete one bounded source-backed read before expanding the workflow.
