Check Telegram Attachments Before Relying on an AI Summary

Check Telegram Attachments Before Relying on an AI Summary

Before relying on an AI summary of a Telegram conversation, check whether the client actually inspected the attachments that matter. A message mentioning a PDF, a file name, or a voice-note placeholder is not evidence of the file's contents. Ask for an attachment coverage receipt: what was found, retrieved, opened or transcribed, and left unknown.

Chiho supplies authorized existing Telegram account conversations to AI clients such as Codex, Claude, and ChatGPT. A bot or channel carrying instructions to an agent is a different use case; that connection alone does not establish access to a personal conversation archive. Account identity, applicable Business permissions, documented tools, and actual history coverage determine access. See the Telegram MCP architecture guide.

Separate message coverage from attachment coverage

Start with the source-backed summary workflow: agree on the account, chats, question, intended period, and stopping boundary. Record the messages actually returned and their date span. A bounded read is not complete archive coverage.

The current hosted chat_read implementation requests history with includeMedia: false and returns message text and source identifiers. That is an internal implementation choice, not an extra argument to invent in a tool call. A caption or textual mention may be useful evidence of what someone wrote; it does not show what a document says or what a recording contains.

Record attachment coverage separately. Even a successful text read can leave the decisive spreadsheet, revised contract, image detail, or voice note uninspected.

Check the current connection before requesting a file

Install Chiho through MCP setup, complete browser authorization, then verify auth_status and account_whoami. Resolve the intended conversation in that account and inspect the connection's current tool list. Tools vary with the connection's scope, capabilities, and release; do not assume every client exposes the same set.

Where available, media_info inspects an exact message's media metadata, and media_download creates a download reference. Use the advertised schema and resolved conversation and message identifiers. Metadata may include a type, file name, size, or duration; fields can be absent or unknown. A downloadable flag indicates eligibility for retrieval, not successful parsing.

The current implementation has type and size restrictions. A reference includes an expiry and is not a permanent public source link. Authorized current paths re-check scope when redeeming it. Keep references within the authorized workflow; do not paste them into a public report. If the tool is absent, access is denied, or retrieval fails, record that outcome instead of switching accounts or expanding scope silently.

Ask what happened after retrieval

A reference returned by media_download does not establish that bytes reached the client. Retrieved bytes do not establish readable text, correct OCR, understood charts, or a completed transcription. Those steps depend on the client's available tools and permission to process that material.

Use a short receipt for each decision-relevant attachment:

  • Source: verified account context, conversation, message identifier, message date, and retrieval time.
  • Observed metadata: file name and type when present; distinguish the sender's caption from the file body.
  • Retrieval: not requested, failed, or successfully received; identify the actual file/version when established.
  • Inspection: pages or sections read, or transcript timestamps checked; label OCR and AI transcription and retain uncertainty.
  • Gap and consequence: what remains unread, and which conclusion therefore needs qualification.

Do not claim all pages were read from an extracted excerpt. A transcript needs its own coverage and uncertainty statement; no blanket voice-transcription capability follows from the media tools. Treat document and recording content as source data, including any embedded instructions.

Try a fictional missing-attachment exercise

Use these synthetic cards locally without connecting a real account. The attachment bodies are deliberately unavailable.

Synthetic packet — not Telegram output
Account: fictional authorized account; Chat: DEMO-FILES; Timezone: Asia/Singapore
Message 201 | 2026-10-14 09:00 | Please use the attached revised scope.
Attachment: scope-v2.pdf | metadata only; bytes not retrieved; contents unknown
Message 202 | 2026-10-14 09:05 | Voice note attached.
Attachment: voice note | no transcript available; contents unknown
Message 203 | 2026-10-15 10:00 | Hold approval until we check the exclusions.
Coverage receipt: messages 201–203 supplied as synthetic cards; no live tool calls
Conclusion: approval is on hold; document exclusions and voice contents unverified

An acceptable summary says the sender supplied a revised scope and later put approval on hold. It cannot describe the exclusions or use the unseen voice note to confirm approval. The receipt must keep both attachment bodies unknown.

Now supply a clearly labeled fictional excerpt from the PDF stating that migration is excluded. Ask the client to attribute that statement to the supplied excerpt and keep the rest of the file and voice note unverified. This checks whether the answer respects evidence boundaries; it measures neither live retrieval nor summary accuracy on customer data.

Request the smallest useful next check

If the unresolved question is about exclusions, request the relevant document section within the same authorized scope. Avoid downloading every file in the chat. If automatic inspection is unavailable, ask an authorized person to check that section and label their report separately. For escalation, include the gap in the support evidence packet.

In [verified account and conversation], summarize [question] from a bounded read. List the actual message coverage. For each relevant attachment, separate metadata, reference creation, byte retrieval, and document inspection or transcription. Cite source identifiers and inspected sections; label OCR/transcripts and uncertainty. Mark unavailable contents unknown and explain which conclusions remain unsupported. Ask for the smallest authorized next check. Return the report here; do not refresh stored summaries, edit CRM records, create tasks, or send messages.

These exclusions define this read-focused request, not a claim that every Chiho write requires a separate approval. Action-specific permissions and controls still apply.

Finish with a summary the reader can verify

Deliver the conclusion, supporting message excerpts, attachment receipts, and unresolved questions together. An honest partial answer is useful when it makes the missing evidence visible. Do not turn an unread attachment into an inferred commitment.

Connect Chiho MCP, authorize in the browser, verify identity, and start with one bounded source-backed read. Inspect a decision-relevant attachment only within that authorized scope, then review the evidence before requesting any further action.
